Alaskan Earthquakes
Because the tectonics of Alaska are so complicated, Alaska is being compressed and pulled and deformed in many ways. The earthquake pattern in Alaska shows this complexity. The earthquakes are color coded by depth. Notice how the dots get deeper as you move north across the Aleutians and this profile curves beneath mainland Alaska. The Yakutat block is bending the subduction of the Pacific plate.
