The UAF Geophysical Institute and the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys participate in the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program.
Together they are mapping the potential inundation, or how far inland waves will travel for a given tsunami, of selected parts of Alaska's coastlines. This involves using data from past tsunami events paired with computer models of future events compared with the shape of the coastline and the seafloor.
