Lahars are a type of mud flow or debris flow composed of a slurry of pyroclastic material, rocks, mud and water. Lahars are extremely destructive and destroy structures that impede their path.

Lahars can be caused by snow and glaciers melting during an eruption, or volcanic material mixing with a crater lake during an eruption.
