The Wells Nevada earthquake occurred in the middle of EarthScope's USArray,
a network of seismographs that are sweeping across the United States until
2013. Because so many USArray instruments were near the earthquake, the effects
of the earthquake were extremely well-recorded. USArray is collecting
geophysical data that will teach us more about earthquakes, volcanoes, and
other geological hazards.
