Using EarthScope GPS instrument data, snow depth can be calculated daily for very remote locations. This graph shows the depth of snow over the course of the 2011 water year (water years start in October) in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. In 2011 snow fell steadily from October through the end of March.
Compare the 2011 snow depths with the graph of the same location for 2012. In 2012 very little snow fell during the fall and most of the winter. Then one larger snowfall happened in March.
