2008 Nevada Earthquake
This USArray wave visualization shows the actual seismic data collected during the February 21, 2008 magnitude 6.0 earthquake in Wells, Nevada. This earthquake occurred is the middle of the USArray. As a result, it is very easy to see the seismic wave propagating outward in all directions.
High-resolution visuals images of seismic wave propagation was not possible before the USArray was deployed.
The station circle changes color depending on whether the seismometer is moving up or down. Blue is up, red is down. The more intense the color, the larger the motion.
