One Station
This visualization shows the data recorded by one seismic station during an earthquake. The circle on the map is the seismic station location. The seismogram at the bottom was recorded at that station. The red line on the seismogram shows the passage of time.
The station circle changes color depending on whether the seismometer is moving up or down. Blue is up, red is down. The more intense the color, the larger the motion.
Visually, one station does not tell us much information about the three dimensional nature of seismic wave propagation.
