The answer to this question is still debated in the earth science community. The geologic evidence is compelling and the geodetic (GPS) evidence might or might not be contradictory to the geologic evidence. Prudence suggests that we should plan on the repeat of these large New Madrid seismic zone earthquakes every 500 years or so on average.
Based the geologic evidence and seismic history there is a 7% to 10% chance of a repeat of the 1811-1812 earthquakes in the next 50 years.
