2013 Queen Charlotte Fault Earthquake
On January 5, 2013, at 11:58 p.m. a magnitude 7.5 earthquake occurred on the Queen Charlotte Fault. This earthquake was felt widely in southeast Alaska and as far away as Seattle.

The red star is the location of the earthquake. The white circles are aftershock locations. The black and white "beachball" is a tool seismologists use to determine what type of earthquake occurred. This earthquake was a strike-slip earthquake.

The two large ovals along the fault show the rupture area (defined by distribution of aftershocks) of two earlier large earthquakes along the Queen Charlotte Fault: a magnitude 7.6 in 1972 and magnitude 8.1 in 1949.
