Southeastern Alaska
In southeastern Alaska the Pacific plate slides past the North American plate as it moves north toward southern Alaska.
This sliding occurs along the Queen Charlotte fault. In many ways the Queen Charlotte fault is an extension of the San Andreas fault in California and capable of similarly large earthquakes, including the magnitude 7.5 earthquake in January 2013.
