The magnitude 7.7 Bhuj earthquake occurred in an intraplate setting very similar to the New Madrid seismic zone. The earthquake generated a wide range of liquefaction features similar to those found along the Mississippi River Valley. Unlike the 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes, the Bhuj earthquake was recorded with seismometers, allowing us to learn more about intraplate settings like New Madrid.
