Frequently Answered Question

Question

How do I cite data provided by IRIS?

I downloaded some data from IRIS DMC and I would like to include this data in an upcoming paper. Is it okay to redistribute this data and how do I carry out the citations?

Answer

We encourage the use and dissemination of data, materials, and presentations.

IRIS doesn’t collect data directly, so data citations should indicate the original source of the data. Data from any FDSN seismic network should be cited as indicated on the network page listed at http://fdsn.org/networks/.

For other IRIS-provided material, see the IRIS Citations page.
