hi there,
I am trying to merge several files from the same station/channel with
sac. The data are downloaded from IRIS using email request. A miniseed
file is then converted to many sac files using mseed2sac.
These particular problematic files include several short and long files,
total 1 day of data. I put all the sac files in one folder and run the
following sac commands.
sac> r *
sac> merge
ERROR 9005: Amplitude mismatch
What does this error mean? I googled around but didn't see any answer.
Thanks.
Matt

Hi Matt
Seems that the recording have gaps, so when you convert miniseed to sac you obtain several files,
i think you can give a look in the command sac merge to see how to work with gaps.
perhaps using merge with gap interp can help you.
HTH,
Milton

Hi Milton,
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry that I didn't make myself clear. The problem is not gaps. merge
will fill zeros in gaps with no problem.
I can merge the longest records (> 1 hr) with no error, all with gaps
between them. The error occur when I include some short recordings that
last 10 minutes or so.

Perhaps when you add the last short record, you have an overlap, so try merge with average
for the short file.

hi all,
Problem solved. The error occur because there are overlap between files.
The following will stop the error message but might need to use with
caution.
SAC> merge overlap average
