Can someone in the SAC network refer me to an individual who can answer questions about field filter settings at IU-QSPA?
The detectors and time frames of interest are:
VH1, VH2 and VHZ
Locations 00, 10, 20, 50 and 70
Time range: 2001 – 2012
Question: Were hardware filters set in the field and if so, what were the settings?
Any help would be most appreciate,
Mike Padgett

Hi Mike,
The full instrument description is available from the DMC as StationXML from this web service:
http://service.iris.edu/fdsnws/station/1/
All metadata at the DMC is derived from that information, including SEED RESP, SAC P&Zs and dataless SEED. Of course XML is not that great to read and manually creating web service requests gets onerous so here is a nicer entry point: our Metadata Aggregator (MDA).
Browsing metadata is easy with MDA (http://ds.iris.edu/mda/), for all IU.QSPA channels go here:
http://ds.iris.edu/mda/IU/QSPA
to see the the location 00 channel VHZ details try this:
http://ds.iris.edu/mda/IU/QSPA/00/VHZ
Included on those pages are instrument response curves and links to the metadata in RESP, XML (StationXML) and SAC P&Z formats.
The RESP format will be the most human readable of the bunch and should contain all the filters used for the channel in question.
regards,
Chad
