Greetings and Happy New Year,

I just wanted to share with everyone a problem I had with my AS-1 and the
solution. I left for China on Aug 10th and as soon as I got to Chengdu and
checked the school seismograph;

it had stopped working. The seismograph was not recording anything; it was
if the seismometer was no longer connected to the CPU. The next day I
checked back and it was recording but the trace was wandering across the
screen like a chicken in a barnyard. To keep a long story short, the
seismograph was off line for three months while I was in China. IT tried to
get it working in my absence but to no effect. IT was looking for a software
solution but it turned out to be a hardware problem. One of the wires going
to the black box was damaged and loose. I restripped all the wires,
tightened the screws and it is now working great.
