The Ocean Bottom Seismograph Instrument Pool has recently uploaded data from the Cascadia Initiative community experiment to the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology Data Management Center (IRIS DMC).
Currently both filtered and redacted seismograph data from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) have been uploaded. Redacted seismograph data from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) instruments have also been uploaded.
Filtered seismograph and absolute pressure gauge data from LDEO are expected to be available at the IRIS DMC on April 1, 2013.
A timing problem, related to the incorrect application of the 2012 leap second, has been identified on the data from the SIO instruments. In an effort to prevent further propagation of these data to the science community, the OBSIP Management Office has restricted further downloads of Cascadia SIO instrument data until the timing problem has been rectified and new data have been uploaded to the DMC. Our initial estimate for completion of this effort is one month, with initial corrected data being available at the IRIS DMC on or about April 15th. Please note that some stations that have been redacted by the Navy may take longer to complete.
Scientists whose work does not depend on accurate timing that would like to access the SIO data with the known timing issue, please contact the OBSIP Management Office. Only the SIO stations are affected and only the SIO stations will be temporarily restricted. The OBSIP Management Office will issue a subsequent statement indicating the availability of corrected data when that complete dataset becomes available.
