*IRIS Project Associate - Instrumentation Services and Education and
Public Outreach*
*(Washington, DC)*

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS,
www.iris.edu) is a university research consortium dedicated to refining
the understanding of the Earth through the collection and distribution
of seismographic data. IRIS programs, funded by the National Science
Foundation, contribute to scholarly research, education, earthquake
hazard mitigation, and the verification of a Comprehensive Test Ban
Treaty. IRIS's Instrumentation Services and Education and Public
Outreach Programs focus, respectively, on facilitating the collection of
high-quality geophysical data and developing educational products and
services for members of the IRIS community and the general public. We
seek a Project Associate to help fulfill these missions.

The Project Associate will work closely with the Directors of
Instrumentation Services and Education and Public Outreach, and other
IRIS managers, to collect and assemble technical data for reporting,
presentations, and related project management tasks. The successful
applicant will manage the development, curation, and dissemination of
IRIS-wide teaching and research training materials, including community
contributed software and data, at the undergraduate through professional
level. The individual will work with seismological data and software
tools on special tasks, present project data, and prepare and edit
content for IRIS web pages. The Project Associate will routinely
interact with scientists within the IRIS community and be expected to
regularly attend and participate in workshops and scientific
conferences. This position will provide a unique opportunity to utilize
scientific skills while participating in activities related to the
management of large-scale seismological infrastructure and the
development of educational materials.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of training and/or
experience in: seismology, seismological software/tools, basic web
authoring, and scientific/technical writing. Advanced computer skills
are a necessity. Demonstrated experience as an undergraduate or
graduate-level instructor or Teaching Assistant and/or undergraduate
research mentor is highly valued. A graduate degree in geology,
geophysics, or equivalent experience, and excellent verbal, written, and
interpersonal skills are required. The candidate must be able to work
effectively and collegially with the IRIS team and the broader earth
science research and teaching communities.

We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits. Candidates should
submit a letter of interest (including salary requirement), resume
highlighting pertinent work experience, and the names and contact
information for at least two references. To apply, these should be sent
electronically to hr<at>iris.edu with the subject line "Project Associate".
