An open meeting will be held on August 16, 2016 at the IRIS office in Washington DC to discuss expanding community involvement in and support for the AfricaArray network (www.africaarray.org). The AfricaArray network consists of 53 observatories operating in 17 African countries, mostly in eastern and southern Africa. Fifty observatories are equipped with broadband seismometers and 26 are equipped with GPS receivers and met sensors. The network has been built over 10 years using funding mostly from the NSF, the NRF (S. Africa), Penn State University, the University of the Witwatersrand, the Council for Geoscience and from in kind contributions from many African universities and government organizations.
