Applies advanced IT professional concepts and multi-institutional objectives to resolve highly complex issues in a diverse array of IT areas of specialization where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Recommends and may select methods techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Independently manages systems and services for SIO IGPP by developing, designing, operating and maintaining a large high availability 24/7/365 distributed computational infrastructure dedicated to acquire continuous streaming data from the NSF EarthScope Transportable Array as well the High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network (HPWREN).

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a secure environment for the ANF/HPWREN infrastructure by designing, developing, modifying, debugging, deploying and analyzing highly complex software and scripts. Responsible for the design, maintenance and monitoring of microwave radio-based of emergency service networks for seismic, fire and weather data (HPWREN).

The position is responsible for the design, maintenance and monitoring of multiple seismic networking monitoring projects, from computing hardware to communication paths. In partnership with research partners at IGPP, provides expert-level training, support, and in-depth analysis of a satellite earth station and the satellite-based networks that serve the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) fleet.

Responsible for designing, troubleshooting, enhancing and maintaining a highly complex satellite-based communications system, earth Station and remote systems aboard research vessels. The incumbent understands and applies industry practices, community standards and department/unit policies and procedures in depth. May serve as technical lead for multiple projects of moderate to broad scope.
