Opportunities for graduate studies currently exist in Jan Dettmer’s research group (http://wcm.ucalgary.ca/dettmer/) at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I seek MSc and PhD students for projects with a research focus in seismic source studies and uncertainty quantification. Prospective students should have strong quantitative skills in geophysics, mathematics, physics, or signal processing (engineering). Knowledge of inverse problems, uncertainty quantification and computers/programming are important assets. Students with specific research interest in source studies for large earthquakes as well as induced seismicity are encouraged to contact me (jan.dettmer<at>ucalgary.ca) to discuss potential projects.

Projects can commence between May and September 2017. Graduate students in my group receive funding that includes teaching and research assistantships with an annual total of $25,000 CAD. This funding level is sufficient to live comfortably in Calgary. Interested students should carefully review the graduate information pages of the Department of Geoscience:

Application deadline is 17 January 2017. Please contact our graduate program coordinator (geosciencegrad<at>ucalgary.ca) to obtain application materials and for general information about application procedures. Prospective students should also consult the web page for the Faculty of Graduate Studies:
