Greetings and sorry if you receive this message more than once...

Summary: Working with many partners around the world, the International Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks (FDSN) has had success in establishing a Federated Data Center System built upon FDSN web services. The federated system allows a seismologist, or anyone of course, to access data from any partner data center running FDSN web services (http://www.fdsn.org/webservices/). A list of those centers can be found at http://www.fdsn.org/webservices/datacenters/. As you can see most of the centers are in Europe, North America, as well as one in South America. Centers in Canada and a few other places will likely join this system later this year.

A complete turnkey system exists that enables this to work without significant technical development. The SeisComp3 seismic network management system supports FDSN web services and any center running SeisComp3 can participate in the Federated system. IRIS is currently promoting an effort in Africa to add 5-6 centers in the Great Rift Valley to this system, as well as one center in Central Asia.

Meeting at the JpGU meeting:I have worked with Seiji Tsuboi to organize a meeting during the JpGU in Chiba. (http://www.jpgu.org/meeting_e2017/). If you have plans to attend this meeting we invite you to participate in this meeting related to building a global federated system of Data Centers. If you can not attend in person a Virtual Meeting option will be provided.

The meeting room has now been assigned for the meeting on Federated Data Centers in the Western Pacific Region

The details of the meeting (room, and time) follows
Makeuhari Messe. (JpGU venue)
date: May 20 Saturday
meeting name: FDSN data center meeting in Asia and Western Pacific
room: 301A
time: 17:30 - 19:30 Japan Time Zone ( UTC+9)

Related Meeting on Marine Earth Informatics Systems: Our meeting will follow the Session M-AG35 convened by Seiji Tsuboi of JAMSTEC that is scheduled on Saturday May 20th between 13:45-15:15 and 15:30-17:00. ( https://confit.atlas.jp/guide/event/jpguagu2017/session/MAG35_20PM2/tables?bOuLXplbZQ)

  • Sorry for cross-posting.

Please note that the location of FDSN data center meeting in Asia and
Western Pacific will be in room 301A of International Conference Hall. This
is a different building from Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall, where the Session M-
AG35 will be held which locates across the street.
