The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University seeks a highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral research scientist to study earthquake nucleation processes and subsurface fluids, using high-frequency seismic signals and several new, dense, large-N (“nodal”) datasets. The candidate will work in collaboration with Cornell researchers Katie Keranen (Earth and Atmospheric Sciences) and Greg McLaskey (Civil and Environmental Engineering). The position includes exciting opportunities for novel technique development, and for interdisciplinary studies at the interface between earth science and engineering. Candidates from either earth science or engineering backgrounds are invited to apply, though the candidate should have skills and experience in quantitative data analysis including shell scripting and various coding languages. A valid driver’s license and a willingness to participate in fieldwork are required. The postdoctoral research position is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Cornell Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future, and the position will remain open until filled. The position is for one year and is renewable, contingent on funding and performance. The desired start name is negotiable but a start date before Dec. 31st, 2017 is preferred. Please send a curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and the names of at least three professional references to Katie Keranen (keranen<at>cornell.edu<keranen<at>cornell.edu>). Cornell University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and Educator.
