PASSCAL pre-AGU Workshop: Data Archiving in PH5

Sunday, December 10, 2017 New Orleans – Hampton Inn Convention Center

IRIS PASSCAL Instrument Center will be holding a workshop prior to the 2017 AGU Fall Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. This workshop will cover the topics of data archiving for active source and mixed mode experiments using PH5 data format and how to access the PH5 datasets at the IRIS DMC. This workshop will also be an opportunity to help PIs and archivers familiarize themselves with the PASSCAL Data Group, the support they provide, and the software utilized in the archival process.

In this half-day workshop we will outline best practices for archiving PASSCAL active source or mixed mode datasets in PH5 in order to aid PIs and archivers in efficiently transforming raw data and metadata into complete PH5 archives. We will discuss the PASSCAL-developed PH5 software tools for archiving, viewing, and extracting active source data as well as the IRIS DMC web services tools for extracting data from PH5 archives at the DMC as SAC, SEED, or SEG-Y format. This workshop will also include a hands-on practice session where participants can build a PH5 archive from start to finish.

New PASSCAL users, and those who simply wish for a refresher course are especially encouraged to attend this half-day workshop. Participants will be required to supply a Mac or Linux laptop and should have a basic working knowledge of UNIX structure and commands. Questions regarding the workshop should be directed to data_group<at>passcal.nmt.edu <data_group<at>passcal.nmt.edu>.

This free workshop is offered by staff at the IRIS PASSCAL Instrument Center. The deadline for applying to attend is November 3rd, 2017. The workshop will be held on Sunday afternoon (1:00pm-5:00pm), December 10, 2017, prior to the start of the 2017 AGU Fall Meeting. Buffet lunch and light snacks will be provided.

To apply please visit: http://www.passcal.nmt.edu/passcal_data_workshop_application_2017. Details forthcoming on http://www.passcal.nmt.edu/content/pre-agu-passcal-users-workshop-2017. Please note that space is limited for the workshop. In the event that our limits are exceeded, priority will be given to participants with current or upcoming IRIS PASSCAL experiments.

Hope to see you there!
