Topics: IRIS Meetings
Attendees of the 2018 IRIS Workshop who are interested in explosive source processes and time-dependent seismic structure should consider attending the Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting described below, which will take place from 4:30–6:00 pm on June 12 (Day 1 of the workshop).

Resolution of Explosion Induced Damage Using Noise Correlations at a Dense 3-Component Array

The SIG meeting will introduce the motivations, goals, and preliminary plans for an experimental study of explosion induced subsurface damage and seismic wavefield generation. The SIG meeting will begin with brief overview talks and most of the time will be devoted to open discussion. The introductory talks will address the goals of the experiment; an overview of the proposed site, explosion parameters, and some measurement capabilities at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM; practical aspects of dense 3-C recording before/after/during the explosion; and potential synergies with the recent Source Physics Experiment. Opportunities for broad involvement are a priority for this likely future experiment, so one aim of the SIG meeting is to identify interested members of the seismological community.
