We'd like to call your attention to AGU session T008, "Combining Geophysical and Geological Observations to Highlight Lithospheric Processes and the Dynamic Nature of Continental Arc Systems," which we are organizing for the upcoming Fall Meeting in Washington D.C.
Session Title:
Combining Geophysical and Geological Observations to Highlight Lithospheric Processes and the Dynamic Nature of Continental Arc Systems
Session Description:
Recent advances in instrumentation and methodologies have driven a surge of interest in exploring and understanding the processes and evolutions of continental arc systems. Challenges exist in (1) how to utilize geophysical observations to better understand mass-transport processes, thermal and rheological structures, and melt distribution within continental arcs; (2) how to integrate geophysical observations with field, geochemical, and isotopic studies of exhumed arcs to comprehensively address the regional tectono-magmatic and -metamorphic evolution of continental arcs; and (3) how to quantify the interplay among regional-scale tectonic and geodynamic processes, including changes in the angle of subduction, the degree of coupling/decoupling between the crust and mantle, with the evolution of the arc. We seek submissions that highlight novel geophysical, geological, and geodynamic modeling approaches, in particular those that integrate across different disciplines, to understand the dynamic nature of continental arc systems.
