[Research Description]
Research and development to monitor and forecast the fault locking-slipping state at plate interfaces using terrestrial and seafloor crustal deformation data, mainly targeting the plate boundaries in subduction zones, as well as technical developments to improve the accuracy of seafloor crustal deformation observations.

[Job Specification]
The Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting System Research Group, R&D Center for Earthquake and Tsunami, JAMSTEC, is actively promoting the development of a method for forecasting the interplate locking state and the construction of a realistic model that involves new survey and observation results.

The successful applicant will develop data analysis methods to understand the spatio-temporal variation in the interplate locking state in and around subduction zones using terrestrial and seafloor crustal deformation data by utilizing a high-resolution three-dimensional rheological structure model. He or she may also conduct research to improve the detection accuracy of crustal deformation using seafloor geodetic observation data.

[Relevant Research Fields]
Geodesy, Geophysics, Earth Science, and their related fields.

[Requirements]
Applicants are required to have been awarded or expect to have obtained a Ph.D. in a related field by the date of employment. In addition, no more than 5 years can have passed between the last day of the fiscal year in which the applicants obtained a Ph.D. and the date of employment.
