Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) seeks outstanding candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in theoretical/computational geophysics. We invite applicants with expertise in modeling of geophysical signals or processes, improved methods for data analysis/inversion, mathematical descriptions of relevant physics, and high-performance computing and/or machine learning applied to geophysical problems. Possible areas of interest include, but are not limited to: geodynamics, crustal deformation and geodesy, mineral physics, planetary science, remote sensing, marine geophysics, potential fields, geomagnetism, electromagnetic methods, seismology, and cryosphere studies. Emphasis will be on selecting a candidate with interest and experience in developing new methodological approaches rather than applications of existing geophysical techniques. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential for research excellence, teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, collegiality, and service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in a relevant field is required at the time of application. For full consideration, please apply by January 31, 2019.
