Shallow-Earth, High-Resolution Geophysicist
Entry-Level, Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor

The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Toledo invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in shallow-earth, high-resolution geophysics with an expected start date of August 19, 2019. This position is connected to a designated strategic focus of the university. We seek an individual whose research is related to shallow earth geophysics focusing on environmental geology and hydrogeology, and who is expected to collaborate with department researchers investigating nutrient transport through large watersheds into Lake Erie and other large-scale systems. The department has a broad selection of geophysical equipment and a recently renovated laboratory space. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, independent, externally-funded research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is also expected, and over time the candidate will be expected to teach courses on geophysics, mapping and structural geology, Geologic Hazards and introductory geology.
The Department ( http://www.utoledo.edu/nsm/envsciences/ ) consists of 21 faculty and approximately 35 graduate students and 210 undergraduate majors, and offers degree programs in geology, biology (ecology track) and environmental sciences. Current research expertise in the department includes coastal, glacial and Quaternary geology, hydrogeology, aquatic ecology, wetland restoration, ornithology, herpetology, climate change, plant biology, soil ecology, biogeochemistry, invasive species, and water resources.
A Ph.D. in geophysics, geology, earth sciences or a closely related field is required. Postdoctoral or equivalent experience is strongly preferred. This is an entry level, tenure-track Assistant Professor position involving a standard teaching-research-service workload. Submit applications at https://jobs.utoledo.edu and include an application letter, CV, statements of research interests and teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information of three references. Dr. Jamie Martin-Hayden can be contacted for further information at james.martin-hayden<at>utoledo.edu<james.martin-hayden<at>utoledo.edu> . Review of applications will begin on January 8, 2019 and the position will remain open until filled.
