The Alaska Earthquake Center is recruiting for one or more postdoctoral
fellowship opportunities. We are seeking individuals with the skills to
analyze a variety of recent earthquake sequences while simultaneously
growing capacity to respond to future events. Specific fields of interest
include advanced techniques for seismic phase and event detection, rapid
moment tensor characterization, and high-precision hypocenter location
techniques. This is a competitive recruitment.

Postdoc positions provide two years of support with the potential for a
third year contingent on performance and funding. In addition to research,
successful candidates will work with professional developers to adapt their
research for potential operational use, or for the creation of value-added
products. Individuals are expected to lead peer-reviewed publications and
participate in proposal development. Support includes regular conference
travel and ancillary project needs. Postdocs will be part of the Seismology
and Geodesy Group at the Geophysical Institute (https://www.gi.alaska.edu).
Though research is the primary focus, affiliation with the Earthquake
Center will provide hands-on experience in a mission-driven environment as
well. Depending on interest, individuals may participate in earthquake
response, fieldwork, and/or public engagement. U.S. citizenship preferred,
though not required.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, a statement of research
interests pertinent to this position, and contact information for three
references. Candidates with questions about the suitability of their
research are encouraged to contact Michael West (mewest<at>alaska.edu) to
discuss. Application review begins on April 1.

As a public, regional, comprehensive university, UAF is committed to
building a culturally diverse and inclusive organization and strongly
encourages women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans
to apply.
