The Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Lausanne invites
applications for a 2-year post-doc position on crustal geophysical
investigations, with earliest start on _December 1st_, 2019.

The research will focus on the Himalayan orogen, primarily on the
distribution and evolution of earthquakes in the crust. Beyond obtaining
an accurate picture of seismicity, physico-chemical models will be
tested for plausible explanations. In addition, participation in
establishing a crustal reference model based on seismological data is
encouraged. The research is part of project OROG3NY
(http://www.unil.ch/orog3ny/). Cooperation with experts in geophysics,
petrology and modelling, nationally and internationally (USA, France) is
planned.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Earth sciences, and be
autonomous in handling seismic data. Experience in earthquake
(re-)location, as well as interest in seismotectonics and metamorphism,
including using or developing numerical models simulating the relevant
processes, are essential. The knowledge of receiver functions is an
advantage. Good knowledge of English and at least one common programming
language is required. The successful applicant will possess strong
written and oral communication skills, be expected to present results at
national and international conferences and to publish in peer-reviewed
international journals.

The University of Lausanne hosts several experts covering a large domain
of Earth Sciences, and offers excellent research conditions. The campus
and the city are located on the shore of the largest lake in Western
Europe, the region provides comfortable living. The knowledge of French
is not a requirement for work but is an advantage for everyday life.

Applications [CV with aforementioned language skill details; a max.
0.5-page motivation letter; copy of M.Sc. diploma; contact details of at
least two referees] are to be sent via e-mail only in a single PDF file
to Prof. György Hetényi (gyorgy.hetenyi<at>unil.ch). Seeking to promote an
equitable representation of men and women among its staff, the
University encourages applications from women. The evaluation of
applications will start _September 23rd_ and will continue until the
position is filled. We regret that only shortlisted applicants will be
informed.
