The Section of Geophysics is looking to fill a position of university assistant/predoc in the field of seismology. Our research contexts are structure and internal deformation of the Alpine region, seismic hazard, seismoacoustic waves, and nuclear verification. Data are available from AlpArray and related European projects, as is our short-period instrument pool (Fairfields). Some specific topics of interest are structure, deformation, and temporal variations of subsurface properties; elastoacoustic wave propagation, environmental seismology, man-made seismic signals, the application of deep learning, but this is not exclusive; e.g., geodynamic modeling of geophysical constraints is also possible.

Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with
relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
We require active participation in research, teaching and administration – and in particular in the departmental research program in the field of seismology. The candidate is expected to contribute to one or more of the above-mentioned research contexts. New technical developments are highly welcome, for addressing questions of fundamental research and/or industrial application. The successful candidate is expected to participate in teaching and to teach courses indepently as defined by the collective agreement, and to supervise students at the various levels. Teaching will be mostly in English. Furthermore we expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.

Profile:
- Completed master or diploma study in Geophysics, or a neighbouring field
- Interest in field experiments and the related data analysis and interpretation
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Knowledge of the German language would be an advantage
- Advanced computer capabilities
- Ability to work in a research group
