The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) is seeking applicants to fill the temporary position of Seismic Data Analyst.
Duties:
The incumbent’s primary responsibility will be analyzing digital seismograms to determine phase arrivals and earthquake source parameters, including location, depth, magnitude, and focal mechanism.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in earth sciences with specialization in Seismology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Sciences with up to one year of professional experience with earthquake seismology and data analysis of seismic signal processing. Working knowledge of an interactive seismic analysis software packages, such as AQMS (preferred), SeisComP3, Antelope, or SEISAN, as well as familiarity with Hawaiian volcanoes, are preferred.
Location:
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is currently located in Hilo on the island of Hawai'i. Relocation expenses are not included with this job announcement. The position is expected to be funded for at least two years.
