Job opportunity with the USGS!

Applications are due 01/27/2020

The Earthquake Science Center of the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program is seeking a Computer Scientist with
systems administration experience and fluency in programming languages, to support our real-time seismic
monitoring projects. This position is being offered in Menlo Park, CA.
The successful applicant will be responsible for systems administration of on-premises, cloud-based and virtualized
computing environments, along with contributing to ancillary activities of maintaining and contributing to the
development of software for automated data acquisition, processing and quality control. Primary duties will be to
operate and maintain the ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning (shakealert.org) system, a mission-critical, distributed
system that rapidly detects earthquakes and generates and issues alerts.

Projects within the USGS Earthquake Science Center oversee the operation of the Northern California Seismic Network
and the National Strong Motion Network and the associated data acquisition and processing systems as part of the Advanced
National Seismic System (ANSS). These networks and associated processing systems are designed to ensure reliable recording
of earthquakes, compute seismological and engineering parameters for earthquakes within seconds of their occurrence,
automatically and accurately deliver that information to the public and emergency response agencies, and to
archive data, data products, and metadata for the benefit of the seismological research and engineering communities.

Please be sure to submit all the requested materials, including transcripts by January 27, 2020.
If you have questions about the application process, please contact Ryan Bui, 916-278-9399, pacsac1<at>usgs.gov.
