The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Department of Geology and Geological Engineering has funding for two graduate students interested in observational seismology and applications of volcanic seismology. Several project topics are available, but the main project is centered around imaging the Cascadia subduction zone using passive source data to be acquired during the summer of 2020. Specifically, students will use data recorded on large nodal arrays and apply imaging methods such as receiver functions, surface wave tomography, and ambient noise tomography. This is a large multi-institution project and students will collaborate with researchers from the University of Oregon and Oregon State University. Motivated students are encouraged to apply using the link provided before the February 15th, 2020 deadline. Additional questions about the projects can be addresses to Dr. Kevin M. Ward at kevin.ward<at>sdsmt.edu.
