Dear Colleagues,

We seek a postdoctoral scholar with expertise in using geophysical or geochemical methods to infer the upper mantle’s physical state, as part of a multi-year, multi-PI, NSF-funded Frontier Research in Earth Sciences project. The postdoc will interact with a dynamic PI group, attend domestic and international meetings, and be jointly supervised by Colorado State University faculty Derek Schutt (primary) and Wolfgang Bangerth (secondary), in geosciences and mathematics, respectively. Primary goals for the two-year postdoctoral fellowship will be to collaborate with PIs and students to use a variety of observables to produce a starting estimate of upper mantle temperature, composition, melting state (where appropriate), and other parameters for a geodynamical reference earth model. Salary is $60,000/year.

A Ph.D. in geosciences or a related field is required. An ideal candidate can present: 1) a record of publication(s) inferring mantle temperature, density, or composition; 2) evidence of research spanning geoscientific disciplines; 3) evidence of computational expertise to infer mantle physical state; 4) use of petrology or geochemistry to infer temperatures in the mantle; and can show 5) experience working with geodynamical code.

The ideal candidate will have an established track record of spanning disciplines to infer the conditions in the mantle, perhaps using computational method to process large amounts of data. The position can start anytime in the next 12 months. Fort Collins, Colorado, is widely known as a location with a high quality of life and easy access to outdoor recreational activities such as biking, hiking, backpacking, rafting, rock climbing, etc.

Colorado State University is an Equal Opportunity employer. To apply, please submit a resume/CV, a cover letter, and references from two people, to http://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/75143 by February 23, 2020.

CSU is an EO/EA/AA employer and conducts background checks on all final candidates.
