Available Position
JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Postdoctoral Researcher (DGP20-001)

Recruiting Department
Computational Science and Engineering Group, Center for Mathematical Science and Advanced Technology (MAT), Research Institute for Value-AddedInformation Generation (VAiG)

Job Description
The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is recruiting a Project Scientist or Project Technical Scientist to work on a project entitled "Development of a numerical analysis method for dynamic crack propagation in residual stress fields (Collaborative project of Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting (FEAT) (PI: Takane Hori) and Center for Mathematical Science and Advanced Technology (MAT))".

[Research Description]
The goal of this project is to evaluate the local ground motion in a huge earthquake event based on the numerical simulation with observation data. Since the variety of the source of the residual stress field (including diffusion of the materials, thermal diffusion, and plastic deformation) should be considered in this project, the successful applicant is expected to have extensive knowledge in the fields of continuum mechanics and multiphysics, as well as the experience and skills for code development to deal with dynamic fracture propagation in solids.

(1) Development of solid continuum models with a residual stress field due to the heterogeneous distribution of inelastic deforamtion.
(2) Development of a numerical analysis method that properly captures the interaction between residual stress field and dynamic propagation of the fracture surface.
(3) Simulation of the entire dynamic fracture process in the residual stress field and comparison of the simulation results with experimental results obtained through research activities (1) and (2).

[Related Research Fields]
Solid-earth science, Continuum Mechanics, Computer Science, Data science

Job Type
