IRIS is committed to supporting educators in their need for “virtual”
investigations and e-learning as a result of stay-at-home orders. Through
June 19th, IRIS will be releasing a weekly 'Teachable Moment' that offers
an opportunity for teachers and students to explore various elements of
seismology. These will be offered in addition to our regular earthquake
summaries.

Wow! We are already to our fourth weekly at-home seismology
mini-investigation! This week is Part 2 of Reading Seismograms. In this
at-home investigation, students will explore how seismograms correlate to
ground motion and explore how the ground near their homes is moving! The
worksheet is available for download as a .docx or .pdf. We hope you will
tailor it to your students’ needs and use! If you do we would love your
feedback!

This resource can be downloaded from:

Also, we wanted to note that we have recently upgraded the 3D-Viewer for
the IRIS Earthquake Browser http://www.iris.edu/ieb It is significantly
more intuitive for users as it is based in Google maps, and visually more
appealing!
