Why do my requested files have .tar.mseed?

I cannot batch-download ".seed" files -- even if indicating "Full Seed" in the request form, data are sent in files with "*.tar.mseed". How can I read these? My rdseed (versoin 5.3.1) will only read ".seed" files. Can I submit my *.tar.mseed files to an online tool that will send back ascii (the way rdseed does)? Please advise!

Hi Linda,

The full SEED format has been retired. See this article for more information:

We are still working on updating a few tools to reflect this change; in many cases the tool will fall back when things go wrong hence results like yours, if it fails to build a SEED file it will give the "next best thing" ie. the base miniSEED volume.
