Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Geophysics Group in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Division focuses on a broad array of energy, environmental, and national security challenges with research into subsurface imaging, seismology, infrasound, ground-shock modeling, and acoustics, to address critical needs in energy, environment, seismic hazards, threat detection and reduction, and earthquake prediction.

We seek applications from diverse candidates with expertise in any of the following research areas: acoustic and elastic-wave modeling, imaging, inversion, and machine learning. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of observational and computational geophysicists to develop novel algorithms for applications to geothermal energy and geologic carbon storage. While the research goals for these projects have been established, there is significant flexibility in the way these goals can be achieved. A self-motivated, creative postdoc will find this environment conducive to intellectual and professional growth and we are looking for applicants with a wide variety of backgrounds who are motivated to work in the National Laboratory system.

Minimum Requirements:
• Ph.D. in a related field within the last five years or soon to be completed
• Demonstrated ability to work creatively and independently, and in a team environment
• Proficiency in scientific computation programming using such as Fortran, C/C++, and Python.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Skills:
• Ability to plan and organize assignments to meet project deliverables
• Strong scientific computation programming capability and experience using modern Fortran, and/or C++, and/or Python, on high-performance parallel computing platforms.
• Experience in machine-learning-related research and programming based on TensorFlow and/or PyTorch, and related tools.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance
