The seismo-acoustic team at Southern Methodist University (SMU) has multiple openings for PhD students to start in Fall 2021, with full support as graduate research associates, to work on a range of topics in seismology and infrasound. Our team conducts unique experiments, works on advanced data science applications for analyzing seismic and infrasound data, and does research on numerical propagation and inversion of seismic and infrasound waves. Our group has strong collaborations with partners in government and industry, providing students with exposure to unique career opportunities. We provide a competitive stipend and cover full tuition costs. In addition, we provide funding to cover the cost of premiums for the Student Health Insurance Plan.
The Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences at SMU has an active Earth Science research and teaching program, with a particularly strong emphasis in Geophysics.
