The Geophysical Institute (GI) and Department of Geosciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) seek a new, tenure-track seismology faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The new hire will be part of the Seismology and Geodesy Group at GI, which sustains close collaborations with the Geophysical Detection of Nuclear Proliferation (GDNP) University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), the Alaska Earthquake Center, and the Alaska Volcano Observatory.

The new hire will split time between teaching and research, with 1/4 time teaching (3-4 credits per 9 month academic year) and 3/4 research at GI. Teaching will be at the graduate and undergraduate level, and the successful applicant will be expected to advise graduate and undergraduate students. The new faculty member will also support UAF’s service and outreach mission. After an initial startup period, the new hire will be expected to raise additional research support from external grant agencies by leading and collaborating on proposals for innovative new research.

We invite candidates with a PhD in seismology or related field and a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should possess an interest in seismological applications for global nuclear monitoring, fundamental seismological research, and an openness to emerging methodologies for acquisition and analysis of large data sets. The new hire will be welcomed into an exciting and active academic and tectonic setting.
