Hi Everyone,

*A postdoctoral researcher with AE experience in a laboratory and/or
field setting is being sought for a 2-year appointment at the University
of Calgary.*

In situ acoustic emission (AE) field studies will be undertaken in a
quarry environment to characterize dilatancy and microfracturing (mm to
cm scale) induced by small-scale fluid injection into a naturally
fractured and stratified siltstone rock. AEs are indicative of weakening
of the rock prior to the formation of macroscopic fractures and will be
measured continuously over several days in shallow (20m) fluid-filled
boreholes. This work will be carried out in conjunction with other
passive measurements using optical fibres, with the overall aim of
characterizing the geomechanical behaviour of the fractured rock mass.

*Qualifications:*

* The applicant must have a PhD in geophysics, geotechnical
engineering or closely related discipline;
* Previous experience in processing and interpretation of AE data is
required;
* Strong record of publishing peer-reviewed research;
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
* The applicant must be capable of working in a self-directed manner
within a team environment.

*All applications must include:*

* cover letter including date of availability, suitability and
motivation for the role;
* statement of research interests;
* current curriculum vitae (CV) (2 pages)
* official or unofficial copies of diplomas / university certificates; and
* contact information including email addresses for three (3)
references to support the application.

*_Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2021_and will continue
until a suitable applicant is found.* /Only those applicants selected
for interviews will be contacted./
