Dear All,

I have RTSMN earthquake data and I need to convert it to SEED format so
that I can extract the data with rdseed.

The following data is generated by a trillium-240 seismometer and digitizer
"Taurus" which suggests that the data is in either SEISAN, MiniSEED or
ASCII format. However, I tried to convert it using SEISAN software through
the WAVETOOL package. but during conversion it is not recognizing or
reading data in any type of format (mseed, ascii, seisan + also tried
considering seed, sac itself) i mentioned above.

During the conversion in the WAVETOOL package I followed steps:-
1. ls (try to list all data in file)
2. dirf *.seisan (mseed/seed/sac/ascii) which generated filenr.lis
but it does not recognize the data considering all data formats and
filenr.lis is blank.

The naming of the file is done in the following way and no data format
indicated.

Also, there are separate files corresponding to three components. How do I
append them in a single seed file?

Thanks in advance

    Dear Pritesh -

I assume that you want data in SAC format because your question is to sac-help.

If you are using the Nanometrics software to retrieve your data from the Taurus digitizers, get it to output the data in mseed format. You can read mseed data in directly with SAC (the SAC/BRIS version described in the SAC book) and then write out the data as a SAC file, or convert it to SAC format with the utility program called mseed2sac. A few minutes of web searching should lead you to suitable source and/or binary versions to run for your system.

There are some awkward aspects of the Nanometrics software to be alert to. The last release I used of the Nanometrics software (called Apollo if memory serves) dumped mseed blockettes of 512 bytes length. Some utility programs can’t handle block sizes this small, so be careful. (SAC/BRIS can read them properly, however - it has been used to QC Taurus field data on some field experiments.) Also, occasionally Apollo will output blockettes that aren’t in ascending time sequence, particularly near times when data collection is stopped and restarted during station servicing. This can cause what appear to be data gaps or overlaps when processed with SAC or other utility programs.
