When science is communicated well, people listen. This GSA virtual short
course on September 28 will help you “find your voice” and learn how to
communicate hazards and science information. Join earthquake and volcano
hazards science communicators Beth Bartel, Wendy Bohon, Wendy Stovall, and
Liz Westby, as they highlight real world experiences and provide expert
advice on how to get your message heard.

This course is highly interactive, with many opportunities to ask questions
and build communications skills. The first half of the workshop focuses on
general effective communication skills and network building. The second
half builds skills, like working with the media, effective communication on
social media, and best practices for communicating uncertainty, hazard, and
risk.

The virtual short course will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021, from 9:00 AM
– 1:00 PM (PDT). Sign up for the short course when you register for the GSA
meeting, https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2021/home (512. Find Your
Voice: Hazards and Science Communication in Crisis and Calm). Registration
is $10 for students and early career professionals, $20 for professionals.
The list of short courses is at
