Dear Colleagues,

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join the Earth Science Associate Laboratory Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. The postdoctoral researcher will work on project RESTLESS: "IntegRatEd tools to decipher the genesis and Spatio-TemporaL Evolution of Seismic Sequences”. This is a 24-month position, starting in early 2022.

Project RESTLESS, led by IDL (Lisbon), aims to integrate cross-disciplinary high-resolution observations of the spatio-temporal evolution of seismic activity, Earth structure at depth, crustal fluids and sensitivity to external forcings, in order to quantify the state-of-activity of geologically active systems. These observations will be integrated using advanced time series techniques and geodynamic modelling, as well as exploring new machine learning methodologies. The goal is to identify patterns that signal the evolving criticality of the systems. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in Tasks 1 (Geotectonic framework), 2 (Spatio-temporal evolution of seismicity) and 3 (4D seismic structure) of project RESTLESS.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in seismology, including experience in the analysis of seismic crises or in the analysis os the Earth structure using seismic ambient noise. Candidates should have a demonstrable aptitude in computer programming and scientific writing/presenting. The successful candidate must either have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Geophysics, Seismology, or similar field.

The position is based at IDL/FCUL, in the center of Lisbon, Portugal. The postdoctoral researcher will work here with me and with Prof Graça Silveira (IDL/ISEL), as well as with other members of the IDL group.

Application should be submitted by 12/November/2021. Further details of this position can be found at:
