Dears,

I have a large .SAC data of ~2 months time, it created from the conversion
of a single raw data file. I would like to know if there is a way of script
to divide the data for other files in day or hour.

I will be very grateful for the help.
Best,
Guilherme

    Dear Guilherme -

On disk, even large SAC files are read efficiently by SAC. If you use the CUT command to define a day-long time window before reading your large file, SAC skips the bits that aren’t relevant and only reads the required data. Then write out each smaller file, change the CUT for the next day, and re-read.

Alternatively, use CUTIM after you read in the whole file, and write out each day-long window.

Finally, the SAC data probably was probably derived from some other format (mseed, etc.). You could re-run the programs that convert it to SAC format into smaller chunks.

See SAC’s HELP command (or online help) for CUT, CUTIM and READ.
