Hello all,

We are pleased to announce that the 2022 Research Experiences in Solid Earth Science for Students (RESESS) application https://jobs.silkroad.com/UNAVCO/Careers/jobs/224 is now open.

RESESS is a summer research internship program, primarily funded by the National Science Foundation, that is dedicated to increasing diversity in the geosciences. It is open to undergraduate students who meet the criteria below. Please forward to any students or groups who may be eligible.

RESESS encourages applications from students who are members of historically underrepresented groups in the Earth sciences, with the aim of cultivating diversity in ideas and perspective.

Under the RESESS umbrella are two programs: Boulder, our traditional program and new for the summer of 2022 is RESESS Satellite.
RESESS Boulder is 11 weeks in person based in Boulder, Colorado. This program runs from Mid May to Early August
RESESS Satellite is a hybrid 11-week program, with 5 weeks in person and 6 weeks remote based at a UNAVCO member institution in the U.S. This program begins Mid June and runs to Late August.
We provide support and mentoring as students participate in authentic research experiences, building skills and confidence. Students may participate for up to two years.
Eligible candidates are full-time undergraduate students who:

Have U.S. citizenship or permanent-resident status (no exceptions)
Have completed the equivalent of two years or more of college
Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the close of this application with a major in Earth or environmental sciences or related field
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Have completed several courses in geology, physical geography, hydrology, environmental sciences, math, physics, geophysics, and/or engineering
Are interested in pursuing a career/graduate school in the Earth sciences or a related science
Are comfortable with all internship requirements https://resess.unavco.org/apply/RESESS-PD-First%20Year.pdf such as living at their research site for the specified duration of their program.

The application deadline is February 8 2022
UNAVCO intends to run all internship programs during summer 2022 in their native format. Should the situation change in terms of health and safety of participants and program staff as it relates to COVID-19, we will convert all programming to a remote model. We will make any such decision on or before March 1, 2022. By applying to this program, you are agreeing to participate in either format. Support is available to assist with a work from home model.
Note: In order to follow federal guidance and maximize the safety of working conditions, UNAVCO requires all interns to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide documentation of an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Requests for medical or religious exemptions can be made by contacting Human Resources.
