Cloud Operations Engineer
Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) Data Services is looking for a Cloud Operations Engineer to join our team.
We operate the largest repository of seismological data dedicated to supporting researchers worldwide. Together with our counterpart organization UNAVCO, we are building a cloud platform to which we will migrate our combined data and services. It is a big task and we need help, primarily in the areas of cloud administration and cloud operations. An ideal candidate is expert in one of these areas and able to help with the other. This position will play a key role in designing the next generation, cloud-based platform for our combined scientific data platform.
Not the job for you? If you know someone that you think fits the bill, please pass this announcement along!
This job is for you if…
You are a cloud operations engineer, ideally with experience in AWS who is well versed in development and deployment in cloud environments. You are self-motivated with strong time management skills. You work well with others in small, remote development teams and can also develop a complete project on your own.
We are a small, scientific consortium with a global reach. The work we perform and the services we provide have a significant and direct impact on earthquake and other geoscience research.
The essential responsibilities for this position may be found in the attached position description.
Some travel (up to 20%) within the United States will be required.
In accordance with Executive Order 14042, all IRIS employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g. telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If offered employment, you will therefore be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination before your appointment or onboarding with IRIS or document an approved exemption. Information about requesting a medical or religious accommodation/exemption should be directed to IRIS Human Resources.
IRIS is unable to provide sponsorship for work authorization within the United States.
About Us: IRIS was founded in 1984 with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), IRIS is a consortium of 125 U.S. universities dedicated to advancing research and education in seismology to understand our dynamic planet and to benefit society. IRIS programs contribute to new discoveries within our planet, natural hazard mitigation, national security, environmental monitoring, advances in geo-computation, networking and communications, and in building a scientifically and technologically proficient workforce. The IRIS membership comprises virtually all U.S. universities with research programs in seismology and includes a growing number of Educational Affiliates, U.S. Affiliates, and Foreign Affiliates. IRIS management is currently headquartered in Washington, DC, but IRIS facilities are distributed internationally and operated in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey and other partner organizations and institutions. IRIS has annual revenues of approximately $30 million, and the Consortium employs roughly 51 full-time professional staff.
IRIS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We believe a diverse staff makes us a stronger organization. IRIS is committed to hiring people of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders (except where sex is a bona fide occupational qualification), sexual orientation or gender identities, marital status, veteran status, religions and disabilities. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
Application review begins March 18, 2022 and will continue until position is filled.
