*Introduction*

*Presentation*

The Institute of Earth Sciences is looking for a postdoctoral research
scientist with an interest in developing an innovative research program
in the broadly defined field of solid Earth geophysics, with a main
focus on seismology, gravimetry, tectonophysics or/and scientific
drilling. Research interest may include any (or a combination) of the
following topics which can be embedded into the candidate’s own proposal:

(i) analysis of seismic data for structural or earthquake process
investigation, especially in orogenic contexts, for example the 2020
M6.4 Petrinja earthquake sequence (in cooperation with the Univ. of
Zagreb) or based on AlpArray Seismic Network data;

(ii) gravimetric investigations using mainly land measurements,
including the acquisition of new data with relative gravimeters,
possibly combined with rock density measurements;

(iii) participation in the Drilling the Ivrea-Verbano zonE (DIVE)
project based on borehole logs, core analyses, fieldwork, or/and related
measurements;

(iv) developing and implementing educational aspects of geosciences, for
example outreach or low-cost seismic networks, and teaching up to
master’s level.


*Job information*

Expected start date of the position: 01.09.2022 or upon mutual agreement

Contract length: 1 year, renewable 2x2 years (max. 5 years)

Activity rate: 60-100%

Workplace: Géopolis building, Institute of Earth Sciences, Faculty of
Geosciences and Environment, University of Lausanne. Fieldwork and/or
laboratory work elsewhere can be part of the job.


*Your responsibilities*

Up to 85% of the work assignment will be dedicated to own, collaborative
research;

At least 15% of the work assignment will be dedicated to teaching
assistance.


*Your qualifications*

The minimum qualification for this position is a PhD in geosciences,
with documented experience on relevant subjects. Previous experience in
teaching will be assessed favourably. The working language will be
English, the knowledge of French is not mandatory but the successful
candidate is expected to acquire some language skills. Good
communication skills (both oral and written) are required, together with
respectful organizational skills.
