Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Fellow in observational seismology on a full-time, fixed-term project for 1 year. The position is in collaboration with Geoscience Australia and will be based at the Research School of Earth Sciences at The Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. The successful applicant will join a vibrant and collaborative environment in Solid Earth Geophysics with world-class expertise in seismology, geodynamics, mathematical geophysics, and rock/mineral physics. The role will focus on characterising the thickness of sedimentary cover across Australia from passive seismic methods.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will expand on recent work determining the sediment-basement interface depth from P-to-S conversions (i.e. receiver functions) that can be calibrated against borehole data. A wealth of passive-seismic data will be exploited from combined ANU and Geoscience Australia archives that include deployments from across Australia, such as the new AusArray deployment by Geoscience Australia. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in collaboration with researchers both at ANU and Geoscience Australia, to develop workflows that can be integrated with HiPerSeis, a system of High-performance seismological tools by Geoscience Australia that run on High Performance Computing platforms such as the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI Australia).
